The Future Past - a found poem (Villanelle)

Life may be understood backwards but it has to be lived forwards.
While I wish the now of then I could bring back again,
There is no rewind button in human life.

With forgiveness, actions of the past
Need not be the gravediggers of the future.
Life may be understood backwards but it has to be lived forwards.

Cherish those you love
And indulge extensively in reflective melancholy.
There is no rewind button in human life.

Time steals everything from us,
So I want to be there to know I’m not there.
Life may be understood backwards but it has to be lived forwards.

The past is another country
Of steam trains and quiet Sundays.
There is no rewind button in human life

Even if nothing might await us,
We should still so live that it will be an unjust fate.
Life may be understood backwards but it has to be lived forwards.
There is no rewind button in human life.
